Is it Left, Right or are we all Americans?

I think it started back in the 80s, all this hate, or whenever that ‘Contract with America’ started. And now, the architect of that plan has re-emerged and wants to be POTUS [Pres. of the U.S.]. Some of these guys are just like a bad cold, they just won’t go away. Or like a canker sore; ugly to look at AND they just won’t go away. But, I digress. The Right thinks they’re all right and the Left thinks the Right is all wrong. It would be bad enough if it stopped there, but it doesn’t. Like wolves or some other pack animal, like rabid dogs, these people are just plain vicious. If it weren’t for the sake of the country, these people would almost be comical. But it is about the country and that’s what makes the dialogue so sad. The sad part is that the joke’s on us.

One, just one. Name one person on Capitol Hill whoever did anything for the United States of America other than spend our money and feather their own nest at the same time. If I, as a Chicago businessman, walked into a politicians office and plopped a suitcase full of money on his desk, then that would be considered a bribe or a pay-off. But you do that in Washington, D.C. and they call it ‘lobbying’. I don’t know, I mean I’m not the brightest guy in the world but if something walks like a duck and it looks like a duck, if it QUACKS like a duck then it’s a safe bet it’s a duck. They’re rolling in the cash and making their contacts and meeting the ‘point’ people for the time when they retire from elective politics and then BAM-O the watershed opens and you see how much this person or that person is making and then it hits you that the joke is on you. The disgusting part is that it’s so blatant, this total disregard not only for their office, not only for their constituents but for the entire country. The Constitution Be Damned! And these are the same hypocrites who fasten those American Flags to their lapels and talk about God and guns and how America’s going to kick someone’s ass. PLLLEASE. To these people, America is nothing more than a nice big, fat ATM.

Whether we are Left or Right, whether we are rich or poor, whether we are progressive or conservative, before all else, WE ARE AMERICANS. All of us. We have to remember that. We need to get our heads out of our collective rears and remember that we are Americans. Some our parents, most of our grandparents and all of our great-grandparents came here from somewhere else. They chose not to go somewhere else, they chose the UNITED STATES of AMERICA. And they built what needed building here in our country, the Irish, the Chinese, the Italians, those from Africa, every race, every nationality, every creed spilled their blood here to make our country  what it is. And there is a segment in OUR society on t.v. and on radio that would diminish the sacrifice that those before us made and you’re either with them or you’re with the terrorists. This is the kind of knee-jerk fascism that is permeating OUR society today.

It was with great pride that I walked into a store in 1968 and handed the guy $20 and a picture of an American Flag and told him to tattoo it on my arm. LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT. But, my love has always been for the people, not the politicians and not the pundits. It has always been and it will always be for the people. My grandma would sew these pieces of fabric together for a patch-work quilt and, as a youngster, I would laugh because it was so funny looking. All of these pieces that don’t go together will come together to keep you warm. If elected, she would have served this country well. Keep the faith, America. God bless. Is Anybody In Charge Here?

No matter what you do, they keep on coming after you, the full time manipulators. We have health-care on the table and the lobbyists from the insurance industry are spending Lord knows how much to make sure it doesn’t get passed. It’s getting to the point that you have to have a six-figure income to get sick in the ol’ USA. Unemployment is at an all-time high with no end in sight because, guess what, all the jobs have been shipped overseas. The credit-card companies, to ward off the ceilings that the Feds have slapped on them, took the low road during the Christmas holidays (oops! that’s right- we can’t say CHRISTMAS,, sorry) and jacked their rates through a non-existent roof. People have to borrow from their kids’ college fund to pay for a tank of gas, but the oil guys are making more money than the US Mint. People are still losing their homes at a record pace having to do with, I don’t know, anything and everything just mentioned. But, here’s the latest: if you walk away from your house and just throw the keys back at the bank, somewhere down the line, they have the right to come after you with a ‘deficiency judgment.’ Maybe they got tired of taking the assets that they inflated off of their books. You know, the banks. The same banks that had the Feds bail them out and then paid themselves bonuses that ran into the jillions. Yah, those guys. Now, we have the nuts running the asylum. Ivy league nuts, but nuts nonetheless.

So, here’s the $64,000 question: Who can you turn to for any kind of help dealing with any of the full-time manipulators? Apparently, no one. None of your elected officials (from local to county to state to federal) would be able to tell you who to talk to, God forbid, they’d actually have to start to do their jobs. And you wonder why the rest of the world laughs at us? What you have to do is keep your head down, just kind of walk through life like a serf and hope that you can stay just beneath the radar screen and maybe, just maybe, you can just die one day.

‘Course, there was a time when the powers-that-be were reeled in by some of our public servants. The banks, the railroads, the oil companies- all of them were held accountable in one form or another. Back then, you had officials who stood up to these behemoths, people like Teddy Roosevelt, who thought, rightfully so, that some of these ‘fat cats’ were not behaving in the best interests of our country and held them accountable for just that. If not, well, the people took the law into their own hands. But, that was 100 yrs. ago. We can’t act like that any more. Now, we’re civilized. We have laws. And where has that gotten us? AAHH! The good old days! Back when the rule of the land was a rope and a gun. But, at least it always kept the bad guys on their toes. Now, we just elect ‘em to office and then, upon retirement, they become lobbyists, selling their influence for 30 pieces of silver at a time. You know, they called ‘em the good ol’ days for a reason. All you needed was an old oak tree with some strong branches.

Sorry, but least that’s the way I see it. MLProko ©2010   www.mikeproko.com
