Is Anybody In Charge Here?

No matter what you do, they keep on coming after you, the full time manipulators. We have health-care on the table and the lobbyists from the insurance industry are spending Lord knows how much to make sure it doesn’t get passed. It’s getting to the point that you have to have a six-figure income to get sick in the ol’ USA. Unemployment is at an all-time high with no end in sight because, guess what, all the jobs have been shipped overseas. The credit-card companies, to ward off the ceilings that the Feds have slapped on them, took the low road during the Christmas holidays (oops! that’s right- we can’t say CHRISTMAS,, sorry) and jacked their rates through a non-existent roof. People have to borrow from their kids’ college fund to pay for a tank of gas, but the oil guys are making more money than the US Mint. People are still losing their homes at a record pace having to do with, I don’t know, anything and everything just mentioned. But, here’s the latest: if you walk away from your house and just throw the keys back at the bank, somewhere down the line, they have the right to come after you with a ‘deficiency judgment.’ Maybe they got tired of taking the assets that they inflated off of their books. You know, the banks. The same banks that had the Feds bail them out and then paid themselves bonuses that ran into the jillions. Yah, those guys. Now, we have the nuts running the asylum. Ivy league nuts, but nuts nonetheless.

So, here’s the $64,000 question: Who can you turn to for any kind of help dealing with any of the full-time manipulators? Apparently, no one. None of your elected officials (from local to county to state to federal) would be able to tell you who to talk to, God forbid, they’d actually have to start to do their jobs. And you wonder why the rest of the world laughs at us? What you have to do is keep your head down, just kind of walk through life like a serf and hope that you can stay just beneath the radar screen and maybe, just maybe, you can just die one day.

‘Course, there was a time when the powers-that-be were reeled in by some of our public servants. The banks, the railroads, the oil companies- all of them were held accountable in one form or another. Back then, you had officials who stood up to these behemoths, people like Teddy Roosevelt, who thought, rightfully so, that some of these ‘fat cats’ were not behaving in the best interests of our country and held them accountable for just that. If not, well, the people took the law into their own hands. But, that was 100 yrs. ago. We can’t act like that any more. Now, we’re civilized. We have laws. And where has that gotten us? AAHH! The good old days! Back when the rule of the land was a rope and a gun. But, at least it always kept the bad guys on their toes. Now, we just elect ‘em to office and then, upon retirement, they become lobbyists, selling their influence for 30 pieces of silver at a time. You know, they called ‘em the good ol’ days for a reason. All you needed was an old oak tree with some strong branches.

Sorry, but least that’s the way I see it. MLProko ©2010   www.mikeproko.com
